We are using this in a house of 840 sq ft mildrew to keep at bay during the rainy season. And the great works. 40 pints refers to the amount of moisture that is pulled off the air, not the size of the tank. The fan creates a little 'flow of air that can cause some chill "wind", but the movement of air in all, a good thing. When locked in the bathroom during the night, so does a great job of drying laundry by hand! I am very pleased to have purchased the product.
